Rafael Acosta, “Juanito,” resigned as Iztapalapa borough chief after meeting with Mexico City Mayor Marcelo Ebrard and being reminded that he used an altered birth certificate to carry out several official procedures, among them running for office. Falsification can lead to a prison sentence of up to eight years, so “Juanito” preferred to offer his resignation. The Federal District legislative assembly was ready to appoint a substitute for “Juanito” in the top job at Iztapalapa.
++ The Senate political affairs board agreed to vote on December 15 to ratify Agustín Carstens’s appointment as new Governor of the Bank of Mexico.
++ Is this the best description by a President? President Felipe Calderón described 2009 as "the year of living dangerously” since economic slump in the United States hit Mexico very hard.
++ More attacks on federal police were reported in Michoacán… Unknown attackers launched armed attacks in Lázaro Cárdenas and Tumbiscatío… Two agents and a civilian were killed. Michoacán governor Leonel Godoy tried to reassure citizens that despite the attacks the state was relatively calm. (Comment: Calm??!!! In Michoacan??? Give me a break..)
++ Chamber of Deputies speaker Francisco Ramírez Acuña said that faced with the wave of killings in different Mexican states the federal government has to come up with a better strategy for better results.
