President Felipe Calderón said that overcoming the poverty in which millions of Mexicans live will be the top priority during the second half of his six-year administration.

Social Development Secretary Ernesto Cordero admitted that because of the economic crisis poverty levels in Mexico dropped back to the way they were in 2005… The number of poor Mexicans increased by six million.

Labor Secretary Javier Lozano said that former workers with power utility Luz y Fuerza del Centro can still receive their severance payments with a bonus, now at 70 percent.

Ruth Zavaleta confirmed that she is leaving the Party of the Democratic Revolution… She made the announcement at the “For a Mexico Without Poverty, Together We can Overcome It,” event and said she will offer a press conference to explain her decision.

The National Human Rights Commission has no position regarding laws penalizing abortion in 17 Mexican states… The new head of the commission, Raúl Plascencia Villanueva, said he will be very respectful of state congresses and their decision on state laws.
