
++ The Public Security Secretariat presented four members of the La Familia Michoacana drug cartel who are linked to the murders of 12 federal agents whose bodies were found alongside de Lázaro Cárdenas-Morelia highway.
++ The European Union is willing to help Mexico more decidedly in its battle against narcotics trafficking, said EU Commissioner for External Relations and European Neighborhood Policy, Benita Ferrero. (Comment: This news is very important for the Mexican government, since they need continued support from the international community, especially in light of accusations of human rights violations…)
++ The Federal District Attorney General’s Office said the possibility exists that the “Los Petriciolet” and “La Flor” gangs are part of the same organization made up of three large units. Relatives of federal police agent said that Lorena González Hernández, “La Lore,” who is being accused of being a member of the La Flor gang, returned from Acapulco on the day Fernando Martí was kidnapped. (Comment: Confused about this news… Well there is a HUGE fight between the local Attorney General´s office and the Feds…. They both want to prove that THEY caught the right kidnappers….It is both a political and legal battle…)
++ The Attorney General’s Office said that four of the people implicated in the ABC day care center in Hermosillo, Sonora, were located in the United States. The fire led to the deaths of 48 infants. (Comment: Mmmmmm hanging out in the US… Who is surprised?)
++ PAN candidate to head the party César Nava, said his candidacy is strong and he will not withdraw from the race, even though he’s the only candidate, since no one else wanted to run against him claiming the election is already weighted in his favor. (Comment: Ahhhhhhh this story is driving me crazy, if those who oppose Nava don’t´ think that he deserves to head the PAN, then fight it!! Launch a candidate!!)
++ The Permanent Committee endorsed the constitutionality of a law that sets maximum salaries for government officials at rates below that of the president of the republic. (Comment: It is silly to think that this is such an important issue, but I guess this is the only way to control the crazy local authorities and legislators who believe that they do such a great job that they deserve to earn more then the PreZ.... )
++ The National Geography and Statistics Institute said that unemployment reached 5.24 percent of the Economically Active Population in the second quarter, the highest rate in 13 years. (Comment: What I don´t understand is that the US unemployment rate is higher than Mexico´s. If this were true, wouldn´t there be waves of people coming down to Mexico to find a job… Any job?)
