
I am still in Hermosillo as I write this posting. The expressions of sorrow for the death of so many children at the daycare center is felt in so many different ways. This is a picture of an informal memorial set up at the museum building in front of the University of Sonora. This is the latest on this tragedy.
The number of infants killed in a fire in the ABC day-care center, a privately-run IMSS facility in Hermosillo, Sonora, rose to 41… More deaths are expected. Another 26 people are still in hospital, 22 minors and 4 adults… Twelve infants are in serious condition…
* President Felipe Calderón traveled to Hermosillo together with the Health and Interior secretaries to visit children who suffered severe burns and continue in hospital… Calderón expressed his support to families of victims of the tragedy and he ordered the Attorney General’s Office to begin an “exhaustive” investigation into the fire… First Lady Margarita Zavala also traveled to Hermosillo on Sunday afternoon to visit with patience and family members. IMSS director general Daniel Karam said the day-care center had passed a review of facilities on May 26… A full report from authorities will indicate whether it truly complied with all security measures…
* Experts from the state and federal Attorney General’s Office continued with the investigation of the installations and searching for causes of the tragedy…
* Pope Benedict XVIth expressed his "deep sadness" at the deaths of children in the fire in a day care center in Hermosillo, Sonora, and sent his condolences to the families… According to initial information 142 infants and children were at the daycare center at the moment the fire broke out in a space that was 150 square meters.
In other news…A shootout between soldiers and alleged narco gunmen that lasted more than four hours left 18 dead in Acapulco… Among those killed 16 are alleged narco hired gunmen and two were soldiers… Another five suspects were arreted…
