++ The PRI caucus in the Senate demanded that President Felipe Calderón order the dismissal of Miguel Ángel Jiménez Godínez, who is director of the National Lottery, for offering to funnel funds from that public institution to PAN political campaigns.
++ And PRD politician Carlos Navarrete, who heads PRD deputies at the Lower House of Congress, warned that the July 5th elections are at risk unless allegations that money from the National Lottery was sent to back the PAN in Campeche state is cleared up.
++ PAN candidate for governor of Campeche, Mario Ávila Lizárraga, denied knowing the National Lottery chief… He warned that he would not accept that his campaign be linked to illegal financing, so he called for an investigation to be conducted.
++ President Felipe Calderón met with U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano at Los Pinos… Calderón and Napolitano discussed bilateral strategy to combat narcotics trafficking and an arms surveillance mechanism agreed upon by the Mexican and U.S. governments during a meeting in Morelos.
++ Napolitano also met with Foreign Affairs Secretary Patricia Espinosa... They agreed to create a High Level Group on Migration in which authorities from both countries would analyze and establish public policies to deal with the migration issue in a more efficient manner.
++ PAN national president Germán Martínez, welcomed the PRI’s “grudging” help in pushing through the Senate a law on seizure of property and assets illegally acquired by criminals or used to commit crimes.
++ PAN blocked off its Internet page political propaganda called “letters soup” which the PRI claimed was negative campaigning… PAN acted after being ordered to remove the offending propaganda by the IFE Complaints Committee.
++ The peso continued to strengthen… The Mexican currency sold at 13.69 pesos per dollar and was bought for 13.24 pesos per dollar.
