Mexican President Felipe Calderón presented the National Accord in Favor of Family Economies and Employment that seeks to alleviate the effects of the world economic crisis… It proposes increasing housing loans and lowering industrial electricity rates among other things.

After the announcement, the chairman of the National Governors Conference, Natividad González Parás, said that it is the government and not the free market, that can create confidence amongst consumers and redirect the economy in this time of crisis.

On the same subject, the head of the Business Coordinating Council, Armando Paredes, made a pledge to the federal government that jobs would not be cut, but he also called for the IETU tax to be adjusted to lower fiscal burdens on businesses.

Mexico City mayor Marcelo Ebrard said that it was important that an anti-crisis plan such as the one presented by president Calderón exists… He said that he will next Monday announce actions his administration will take to help low-income families in the capital.

Meanwhile, PRD national leader Jesús Ortega said that President Calderón’s National Accord in Favor of Family Economies and Employment is insufficient… He said that also next Monday the PRD will present a realistic and viable proposal that offers more.

The Institutional Revolutionary Party will file a complaint with the Federal Electoral Institute against the National Action party for publicizing social federal government programs for its own benefit… The PRI said actions by the PAN are unacceptable in a democratic law-abiding country and must be punished.

Labor Party political coordinator Heron Escobar said at a press conference that his party and Convergencia will send a new name for their coalition to be registered by the IFE. The new name for their alliance is: “Coalition for the good of all, the poor first.”
