++ The federal government has imposed sanctions in a two-year period on 11,500 public officials for corruption. The sanctions have been mostly in Pemex, Diconsa and customs offices… In view of that, President Felipe Calderón pledged to continue the battle against corruption and said that in the struggle, citizen’s reports are indispensable.
++ According to a survey carried out by Transparency International Mexico is in third place when it comes to countries whose businessmen are most likely to offer bribes to do business abroad.
++ The Interior Secretariat is waiting for the Public Office Secretariat to decide whether it will suspend officials at the Purchases Department, who were involved in opening biddings for contracts and hiring the company which did maintenance work and provided the pilots for the Learjet 45 that plunged to the ground on December 4th, killing Interior Secretary Juan Camilo Mouriño and others on the plane and on the ground.
++ PRI leader at the Chamber of Deputies, Emilio Gamboa Patrón, said he trusted that President Calderón will behave like a statesman during the 2009 elections. Nonetheless, he said the PRI would be monitoring the president’s behavior to make sure he remains neutral.
++ The PRD presented its new party image… The party launched a four-spot radio and television campaign apologizing to citizens for the long-drawn-out disputes after the party election.
++ The full Chamber of Deputies announced constitutional reforms giving Congress the ability to pass general laws referring to organized crime and kidnappings.
++ The Senate approved the General Law of the National Public Security System creating new criminal intelligence and information bodies.
++ The Bank of Mexico said that inflation rose by 1.14 percent in November, the highest rate since January, 2000.
