++ President Felipe Calderón endorsed the appointments proposed by the Mexico City government of Manuel Mondragón y Kalb as new Public Security secretary and Miguel Ángel Mancera as new Federal District attorney general… Calderón said that both the federal government and city hall must work together to combat organized crime.
++ Mexico City mayor Marcelo Ebrard hailed the decision by the president… Ebrard renewed his government’s pledge to work together with the federal government in matters of public security.
++ In other news, the homicides state attorney, Gustavo Salas resigned after taped remarks were made public in which he criticized authorities linked to former attorney general Rodolfo Félix.
++ The Federal District Legislative Assembly has gathered sufficient signatures to set up a jurisdictional committee to analyze the removal of Francisco Chiguil as head of the Gustavo A. Madero borough.
++ UNAM rector José Narro Robles gave his backing to the public consultation on energy reform being organized by the Mexico City government and set for July 27, and said he will take part if he is in the capital city on that day.
++ PRI senator Manlio Fabio Beltrones said that his party will present its proposal for energy reform after July 22.
++ Federal agents in Mexico City arrested José Obed Olvera Salguero, who is thought to be a major associate of Zhenli Ye Gon.
