News Summary for January 29th

President Felipe Calderón is in London where he continues his European tour after participating in the World Economic Forum in Davos. On Monday he will meet with British Prime Minister Tony Blair. President Calderon will also meet with businessmen and with journalists. In one of the first evaluations of Calderon´s tour, the Secretary of the Economy, Eduardo Sojo, said that Mexico has began to recuperate the confidence of global investors.

* Meanwhile, the Foreign Secretary, Patricia Espinosa said that the Mexican government will try to convince British authorities to lift the British advisory on visiting Mexico.

* On Monday afternoon, Calderon will travel to Madrid, the fourth and last point of his European tour. Before his trip to Spain, Calderon sa told the Spanish newspaper “La Vanguardia”, that Mexico is safe from “populists”

* Hugo Chávez, the President of Venezuela, criticized Felipe Calderón, for promoting Mexico, at others´ expense, “It seems that this little gentleman is going down the same road as his predecessor, Vicente Fox", said Chavez.

* The Secretary of Federal Public Security said that they delivered Said Jadier Kamel to the Dutch authorities - who is accused of homicide and drug trafficking.

* In Michoacán, a federal judge arrested the First Commander of Municipal Public Security, of Lázaro Cárdenas, accused of protecting a group of hired assasings of “Los Zetas”…

* Meanwhile in Tijuana, Baja California municipal police put away their resorteras and marbles after their firearms were returned to them, after the revision of firearms and revision of more than 2,000 firearms took place.
