Final Entry for Today: News Summary for September 6th.

The Federal Electoral Tribunal´s seven judges unanimously certified Felipe Calderon as the president-elect of Mexico. Calderon obtained over 14 million votes, exactly 233, 831 more than his rival Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador.

In his first message as President-elect, Felipe Calderon called on all politicians and citizens to join forces to create development in Mexico. He said that he would extend his hand, and have a door open to dialogue.

Andrés Manuel López Obrador rejected the Tribunal´s ruling and said to his followers in the Zocalo:
"I do not recognize someone who tries to act as the chief federal executive without having legitimate and democratic representation. ¨

In a message to the nation, President Fox congratulated Felipe Calderon and wished him the best. He also called on all losing candidates to join in the national dialogue to build a new era in the history of Mexico. President Fox will meet with Felipe Calderon to start transition plans.

Jorge Zermeño, President of the Mesa Directiva of the Chamber of Deputies said that he would announce ¨¨EL BANDO SOLEMNE¨ in the next couple of days --the official declaration of Felipe Calderon as president-elect. The PRI coordinator in the Chamber of deputies, Emilio Gamboa said his party will respect the Fed Tribunals ruling and will work alongside Calderon. Alejandro Chanona, the coordinator of Convergencia at the Chamber of Deputies said that his party, which made an alliance with the PRD and the Workers Party, would recognize Felipe Calderon as president-elect. Meanwhile, Raymundo Cardenas, the PRD depute said that the Tribunals ruling is ¨pathetic¨

José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, the Spanish prime minister, sent a telegram congratulating Felipe Calderon in his victory in the pres elections. Tony Garza, the US ambassador to Mexico also congratulated Calderon and says that he looks forward to working with his administration.
Calderón also received on Tuesday congratulations from the President of Guatemala, Oscar Berger; President of El Salvador, Antonio Saca; Secretary General of the OAS, José Miguel Insulza; the President of the Interamerican Development Bank (IDB), Luis Alberto Moreno; President of the World Bank, Paul Wolfowitz.
