THE BATTLE OF THE GRITOS...

Andrés Manuel López Obrador announced this Sunday that they will move out the Zócalo on the morning of the 16th, from 2:00 to 3:00 AM, so the military parade can take place as scheduled by the Secretary of Defense. However, he also announced that at around 3:00 pm that same day his National Convention would take place. Additionally he said that the day before, the 15th, a "verbena popular" a festival will take place at the Zócalo as of 3:00pm, which will culminate with Andres Manuel giving the GRITO. Ok, lets review what happened. AMLO is willing to step away to give the military their parade. Which means they do not want to mess with the military. Not because they necessarily fear the military, but because they probably thing that if the military came-in and forced them out, they would never be able to reinstall themselves in the Zocalo. Also, the military continues to be one of the institutions with most prestige in Mexico. Therefore, they are betting on getting the military on board, allowing them to have their parade in exchange for coming back and taking over the Zocalo and the main avenues. What will be interesting is how the GRITO is going to take place.... Will non-PRD supporters be allowed into the Plaza (It is an open verbena popular... ?) The President will do his grito at the same time AMLO does his own GRITO.... I guess it will come down to who can be the loudest...
