
The result of the Chiapas´elections is trickling-in, 94. 33 percent of polling places have completed the Program of Preliminary Electoral Results (commonly known here as the PREP). PREP results show Juan Sabines, the PRD candidate, with 48. 39 percent of votes, while the PRIAN candidate, José Antonio Aguilar Bodegas, is at 48. 17 percent, a difference of only 22 hundredths of one percent (some 2, 405 votes)

José Antonio Aguilar Bodegas said that he would challenge the results (where there were irregularities) to the Federal Electoral Tribunal. He says there are some 50, 000 votes have not been counted.

Juan Sabines said he was willing to accept an eventual opening of all the ballot boxes for a full vote-by-vote recount, if that is what his adversaries want.

Members of the Popular Assembly of Oaxaca attacked 15 radio stations in Oaxaca, they also blocked the federal Oaxaca-México highway... This happened after they tried to evict (with arson and weapons) the TV headquarters of Canal Nueve. Some members of the Assembly are still holding this building hostage.

Salvador Ordoñez, Jesús Eduardo Vidaña y Lucio Rendón Becerra, the three shipwrecked Mexicans got to the Marshall Islands on Monday – where they were received with a warm and festive welcome. The three men said that they had been shipwrecked for nine months in the Pacific.

Across Mexico, more than 25 million students (from kindergarten, primary and secondary) went back to school on Monday. President Fox opened the school year in a ceremony in Celaya, Guanajuato, and said that the challenge to teachers is to bring up a generation that does not spoil people.

With such a razor-thin difference in the vote, I am sure the PRI/PAN candidate will be justified in screaming fraud. Perhaps mobs of his supporters can be enlisted to block highways, plazas and bank entrances. Maybe this can go on for years.
After all, democracy means your guy must win.
