I am back...I had to take a day off from blogging to catch my breath. We have seven more weeks ahead of a legal and media battle for the heart and minds of the Mexican electorate. Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador presented on Monday two videos allegedly showing electoral fraud. One of the videos shows how someone in Salamanca Guanajuato, was stuffing the ballot box for the Panistas in the legislative RACE. AMLO also showed a video in Queretaro in which the number of vote casted is higher then the actual voting roster... There is in addition to recorded phone calls between the Governor of Tamaulipas, the hyper Priista Eugenio Hernandez and Elba Esther Gordillo and the former Secretary of Communications Pedro Cerisola presented on Saturday by Campaign Manager Jesus Ortega. It appears that in each one of these conversations Gordillo and Cerisola insist that the governor support the PAN presidential candidate, not the PRD candidate, since the PRI was losing..
For AMLO these cases are indicative of nationwide irregularities. He also insist, but without showing evidence, that the Hildebrando Company owned by Calderón brother-in-law, manipulated the system.. AMLO also stated that there is evidence that the contract between Hildebrando and the Ministry of Development to develop a list of beneficiaries was used during the elections. Once again no evidence has been presented..
Although these are interesting examples of potential irregularities, in the video cases, they may have some evidence against legislative elections, not necessarily the presidential elections… As for the phone calls.. Well they are going to have to show that a PRI governor actually went out and coerced, promoted or used resources in favor of PAN… Which once again is going to require evidence…
I am not saying that there is no evidence out there that supports AMLO´s position. However, what has been presented is clearly not enough, although helps the media strategy. Calderón continues to get congratulations from foreign governments: Honduras,
